Who We Insure

Insurance for Food Banks & Meal Programs

Food programs move product, people and vehicles every single day, largely through volunteer labour — which is exactly where coverage gaps tend to appear.

The Specifics

What actually goes
wrong here.

01

Volunteer labour at scale

Sorting, lifting and loading is physical work done mostly by volunteers, who usually fall outside workers’ compensation entirely.

02

Vehicles and delivery routes

Owned trucks, rented vans and volunteer cars all appear in a typical operation, and each is covered differently.

03

Product handling and storage

Storing and distributing food carries its own exposure, including refrigeration failure and the loss of stored product.

How We Work

We read the contract
before we quote it.

Since 1986 we have placed coverage for the organizations that care for people across California — nonprofit and for-profit alike. That means reading the funding contract, the lease and the program description before we go to market, so the policy matches how you actually operate.

We also include free unlimited access to HR specialists, and we don’t charge a broker fee with most of our insurance programs.

Questions

Questions we
get asked.

Not usually by workers’ compensation, since they are not employees. A volunteer accident policy covers medical costs directly, without a liability claim being filed.
That is non-owned auto exposure for the organization. It protects the organization; the volunteer’s own policy handles their vehicle.
That is typically equipment breakdown and spoilage coverage, which is worth confirming specifically rather than assuming.
